Uzbekistan will have a new cluster for the production of leather and shoes by the end of the year, according to local media reports. Located in the Jizzakh region, it is a joint development with counterparts in Turkey.
Dilobar Zufarova, head of the economic planning department of Uzbek leather industry association Uzcharmsanoat, said the project is in an advanced stage of development. He added that construction is underway and that leather production would begin at the cluster by the end of 2019. Shoe production would be added at a later date.
The cluster will have three industrial complexes, including factories for leather processing, shoe manufacturing and leathergoods production. It would allow all stages of the supply chain, from processing of raw materials to shipping of finished products, to take place in the same place.
