Africa - Uganda makes debut on international stage for leather
20 March 2017

The Organisers of APLF are delighted to announce that this is Uganda’s first venture on to the international stage of the leather industry at the world’s leading event.

This national participation has been organised by the Uganda Leather and Allied Industries Association (ULAIA) headed up by its Chairman, Sekandi Abdul Hakiim and facilitated by Mr Ralph Arbeid.

Uganda has 7 large tanneries and 2 small ones with installed capacity to process close to 10,000 hides and 47,000 skins per day. More than 95 percent of processed hides and skins are exported as wet blue and Uganda has just signed an agreement with India to promote trade and investment partnerships in the leather sector.

The participating tanneries specializing in wet blue are: Elgon Leather; Leather Industries of Uganda; Novelty Tanning and SWT Leather.
