The Real Leather. Stay Different. 2024 International Student Design Competition is now open for entries, writes ILM.

This is the fourth year of the competition, which is funded by the Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA) in partnership with Arts Thread.

The competition is open to students in higher education or who have graduated in the past year. Entrants will submit a bespoke leather item in one of three categories – accessories, apparel or footwear – made from at least 50% cattle hide (leather).

Entries will close at midnight GMT on June 30, 2024. Applicants can register and find out more at rlsd.internationaldesigncomp.com.

Chad Robertson, co-chair of the LHCA, said: “We are extremely proud to see the Real Leather. Stay Different. International Student Design Competition enter its fourth year. It is an initiative that continues to inspire and empower a new generation of designers to challenge the fast fashion paradigm and embrace sustainability.

“By harnessing the versatility and durability of leather, these young talents are not only crafting beautiful pieces but also advocating for responsible sourcing and production of the materials they choose to work with.”
