Leather chemicals group Royal Smit & Zoon recently organised a workshop on sustainable leather tanning, reports Leatherbiz.

The weeklong workshop took place at the Institute for Creative Leather Technologies (ICLT) at the University of Northampton.

Dirick von Behr and Craig Munro, who are leather specialists from Smit & Zoon, provided both theoretical and practical knowledge to educate the younger generation on how to tan leather using the Zeology process. They highlighted the sustainability and eco-friendly properties of this process which is based on the mineral zeolite and is free of chrome, heavy metals and alehydes.

The event was said to be a great combination of education and fun.
