A productive exchange today at the Sectoral Social Dialogue Committee for Tanning and Leather, with representatives from industriAll Europe, DGEMPL, DGGROW, EU Environment and Climate. COTANCE, along with its members UNIC – Concerie Italiane, VDL, AXELPIEL, highlighted the potentially devastating impacts of the EU Deforestation rules if the specific challenges for the leather supply chain are not addressed and the hopes raised in the industry for finally achieving EU-wide leather authenticity rules though the review of the Textile Labelling Regulation.

Both sides of the leather industry agree to narrow down the industriAll Europe-2024 Campaign for industrial jobs in the EU to respond to the needs of the European leather industry, calling for EU policies and instruments that fight circumstances undermining free and fair competition in the global leather market.

Updates were also shared on the joint Leather Manifesto for COP28: https://lnkd.in/e68yxC59 and the progress of the COTANCE-led Green Deal Leather Project: https://lnkd.in/ebsHvMWi
