Tibet - Yak herders care for the Environment

Francis Tsang, co-founder of the ChromeFree Leather Alliance (CFLA) writes that yak Hides would be just waste for landfills without the Leather supply chain.

Toured by volunteers from the provincial NGO (玉树藏族自治州), we spent a week on 4200 meter-high Tibetan herder villages to explain how to salt and treat the hides immediately after the slaughter during the long winter months. Tibetan nomads and herders carry out all killings for self-sufficiency.

Herders of the Tibetan ethnic group are leading the charge in protecting grasslands and biodiversity in their communities, thanks to support from the government and environmental groups.

About APLF

We bring leather, material and fashion businesses together: an opportunity to meet and greet face to face. We bring them from all parts of the world so that they can find fresh partners, discover new customers or suppliers and keep ahead of industry developments.

We organise a number of trade exhibitions which focus on fashion and lifestyle: sectors that are constantly in flux, so visitors and exhibitors alike need to be constantly aware both of the changes around them and those forecast for coming seasons.
