The Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) has asked the Commerce Ministry to provide financial assistance for machinery, writes ILM.

The proposal from the BTA reportedly asks for support to set up mechanised desalting machines, a chrome recovery plant and hair filtering machines at the Savar Industrial Tanning Estate.

In a letter to the Commerce Ministry, BTA Chairman Shaheen Ahmed said that the volume of leather production and exports had fallen since tanneries were relocated from Hazaribagh to Savar.

He called for support due to financial losses from the move as well as due to the Russian-Ukraine conflict.
