A report from Statista has revealed that more than half of the value of counterfeit goods seized in the U.S. in 2020 are luxury items, reports ILM

 

 

Luxury items including watches, jewellery, handbags and wallets made up more than 50% of the seized merchandise retail value despite amounting to only 30% of the total.


US$283 million of leather goods were seized by U.S. authorities in 2020, according to the report, while the majority of counterfeit goods taken by U.S. customs (US$660 million) originated from China.


Hong Kong was the second-largest market with US$429 million seized in 2020. The total value of seized goods amounted to US$1.3 billion in retail value.
