Q1 2017 yields positive results for China’s leather industry

After an “optimistic and vibrant” APLF Leather at the end of March with good business and an increased number of visitors, there was more good news for the leather industry as whole.

The Chine Leather Industry Association (CLIA) published a report on 12 April detailing the performance of the sector in Q1 of this year and the results make very encouraging reading. Here is the relevant paragraph:

“………..in the first two month of 2017, the industry saw a 5.6% increase in sales revenue, 1.1% decline in exports and a 10% increase in imports, particularly for imports of finished leather, semi-finished leather and raw hides and skins. This increase in imports will benefit the world leather industry.”

In conversation with Su Chaoying, Honorary President of the CLIA during APLF, he stated that the transition of China’s leather sector due to the imposed pollution restrictions could be completed by end August this year, to coincide with the 3rd World Leather Congress (WLC 2017).

In combination with the positive performance from Q1, there appears to be a resurgence of activity in the Chinese leather sector and hence the increase in imports of finished leather, semi-finished leather and raw hides and skins will benefit western tanneries exporting to China either to manufacturers or other tanneries.

ACLE 2017 is the ideal business platform from where to take advantage of this upturn in China leather demand and the dynamics of this leading fair will be augmented by the holding of the WLC III on 29th August, one day before the fair’s inauguration.

Last year’s ACLE attracted more than 23,000 visitors with almost 20,000 from the main manufacturing provinces of China. For this reason, there is no better place to be at end August right after Europe finishes its annual holiday shutdown.

Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in China’s definitive leather event and contact [email protected] or your local representative to reserve your exhibition space.
