One4Leather writes that the automotive leather industry accounts for 18% of the annual processed hides. If laid end-to-end, the hides used for cars would wrap the earth 1.8 times. If the automotive industry increased the use of leather by just 10%, it would save 3.5 million hides from landfill and save over 64 million kg of CO₂e.
