Pima cotton is a higher-end type of cotton with a longer fibr than conventional cotton. It has a reputation for producing a smooth fabric that’s soft to the touch, wrinkle-resistant, and ultra-durable.

Dr James M. Vreeland, CEO of Naturex Peru, in close contact with Sur Francisco who has shared his thorough and very personal recounting of this landmark achievement, recorded in his thesis that confirms this year 2022 marks the centennial of pima cotton’s presence and unique beginning in Piura, Peru one 100 years ago!

Protecting the heritage of native cotton in Piura
To coincide with this centennial anniversary, Naturtex discovers a unique and incredibly intense rust-red eco type of naturally pigmented native cotton, carefully conserved for several generations of women textile artisans in a desert village near Morropon, Piura, Peru.

With their consent, Naturtex will multiply these priceless seeds in its recently initiated organic cotton experimental farm nearby to protect this disappearing cultivar and to distribute seeds to other needy artisans in the neighboring villages.
