UNIC reports - European Commission confirms exclusion of leather from EUDR

1

With the publication of the delegated act of 13 July, the European Commission confirms the exclusion of cowhide at all stages of processing from the Anti-Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The proposal, put forward in draft form on May 4, was opposed to public consultation until June 1.

After notification to the Council and the European Parliament, the two-month examination period is awaited. It is technically possible, however unlikely, that Parliament will ask for an extension of the deadline. In the absence of oppositions or extensions, at the end of the examination period (13 September) the EUDR regulation will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. And it will come into force, as long hoped for by UNIC – Concerie Italiane and COTANCE, without bovine hides in the field of application.
