Defending Leather Terminology: Italy’s UNIC – Italian Tanneries – Reaffirms its Commitment

1

For years we have been committed to restoring proper terminology in the leather sector. It is a pity that our efforts and those of the entire sector to obtain and offer a material of excellence and sustainability are often “exploited” by companies that – although producing different materials – use the terminology (specifically the words “leather” appropriating an image and a definition that do not belong to them, creating confusion even in the final consumer, which has to extricate itself from unclear and misleading definitions.

The examples – unfortunately – we know well: “eco leather”, “vegan leather”, “ecological leather”.

Terms and definitions that cannot be heard or written. Literally.

That’s why we will never tire of saying it, repeating it and making our voices heard.
