As we draw towards the end of the year, Leather Naturally Chairman, Dr. Luis A Zugno shares his reflections and vision for the future of the leather industry with International Leather Maker.

Dr Zugno has worked within the leather industry for 50 years. He has a deeply insightful, informed view of what our sector must do to drive a sustainable pathway forward.

“The future of leathermaking depends on our willingness to question established paths and embrace change, even if the way forward seems uncertain.”

In his words ‘For many years, I have been saying that our leather industry “cannot get there from here”, meaning that the road of tradition, art and science that brought us to where we are today will not work for the future. We need to change our route with different skills and tools.

It’s a fascinating viewpoint that sheds light and inspiration for both thoughtful consideration and ultimately he hopes, proactive engagement.
