Textile Waste

Ayna Pirkuliyeva from Prague writes on LinkedIn: The mayor of Prague dumped 4 tonnes of clothes in the city centre outside of a shopping mall.

To show us the amount of textile waste a European family of 4 produces in their lifetime.

100 billion new clothes are made each year. Only 1% is recycled.

That’s how we get “fashion graveyards” visible from space (Chile’s Atacama Desert).

10% of all greenhouse gas emissions

Over-consumption of natural resources

Water pollution

A simple action we all can take:

Shop less, second-hand where possible, and use our clothes for longer.

Bravo, Prague

I’d love to see some stats on how this installation affects people’s shopping decisions this week…
