The latest figures available from Peru’s Exporters Association (ADEX) confirm that the US increased its shipments of footwear from Peru by 155.5% in the first two months of 2022 compared to the same period a year earlier.

 

 

With 36% of footwear exports, the US is the main buyers and in the period under review purchased footwear worth almost $1 thousand of the total $2.54 million exported.


Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Bolivia, Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Mexico complete the top 10 destinations for Peruvian footwear, according to ADEX.


The export figure is broken down as follows: 42.7% for leather footwear and garments; 28.3% for rubber and plastic footwear with the list being rounded off by textile footwear with a 26.6% share.


Peruvian footwear closed 2021 with a turnover of $20.4 million in exports, an increase of 43.6% compared to 2020, but 2.9% below pre-pandemic levels. The sector expects to surpass the pre-pandemic figures this year with exports valued at more than $21 million.
