Upcycling - Blockchain-powered bag is part of new Miu Miu Upcycled collection

Fashion brand Miu Miu has used leather as one of the focus materials in its latest Upcycled collection, writes Leatherbiz.

The brand first launched Upcycled in 2020 “to uphold the precious nature of vintage clothing and encourage circular design practice”.

For 2024, it has included a patchwork leather bag, for which it has used repurposed materials from past styles. It said its artisans carefully stitched together pieces of recovered leather, working with great care and attention to the structure, texture, and color of the pieces “to create something completely new”.

Distinctive elements are the refined patches, hand-stitched logo, and a deliberate vintage look, Miu Miu said.

This bag is registered on Aura Blockchain, a specialist non-profit organisation launched in 2021 by luxury companies LVMH, Cartier and Miu Miu’s parent brand, Prada.

By scanning a near-field communications tag near the logo on the bag, customers will be able to access detailed information about the bag and the material it is made from. They will also be able to see a certificate of authenticity.
