Leather’s carbon footprint to be authenticated.

The ongoing narrative that leather is prejudicial to the environment is about to be challenged by a new study commissioned by the Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA). The independent study consists of a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of leather and is due to be published in April.

It will show that leather’s carbon footprint has been overestimated by up to 8000 times by the Higg Msi calculations.

The new authenticated figures should help leather find wider acceptance amongst designers and make it more competitive with its so-called vegan rivals.
