The following table from Wikipedia shows global auto production and the top ten producing countries since 2018.

 

China is the dominant force in global auto production and together with its Asian neighbors of Japan, India and South Korea illustrates how Asia has taken the lead in producing automobiles.


In the case of China, almost six million electric vehicles (EVs) were produced in 2022or approximately 22%of the total. Many of these vehicles are equipped with or offer the option of leather seating and interiors (the big exception being Tesla) and according to the latest report from the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), EVs will help boost demand for automotive leather this year.


The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM)is forecasting a 3%increase in vehicles sales in China this year from the 26.9 million registered in 2022.
