Leather Manifesto for COP30: What Truly Matters

This year has been a wake-up call on plastics. It’s in our blood and brains, and even recycling makes it worse — releasing microplastics we inhale every day.

The same goes for so-called “vegan,” “PU,” or “pleather” materials — all petroleum-based plastics that crack, peel, and pollute.

Yet global leaders still failed to agree on a treaty to end plastic pollution.

As we approach COP30 in Belém, Brazil — the heart of the Amazon and one of the lungs of our planet — it’s time to ask: what really works? What truly matters?

With this Leather Manifesto, the global leather industry stands united to answer: embrace natural materials = Leather.

Leather is part of the solution — a natural, bio-based, and biodegradable material that connects innovation with craftsmanship, nature with culture, and people with purpose. It’s made by skilled hands, cherished for generations, and woven into the stories we live and pass on.
