It\u2019s admirable. It\u2019s hard work. \ud835\uddd4\ud835\uddfb\ud835\uddf1 \ud835\uddf6\ud835\ude01 \ud835\uddfa\ud835\uddee\ud835\ude01\ud835\ude01\ud835\uddf2\ud835\uddff\ud835\ude00. <\/p>


But here\u2019s the uncomfortable truth: with one swipe of a credit card, you can undo years of those careful efforts – literally.<\/p>


Buy one fake leather couch, jacket, or handbag and you\u2019ve just invested in a product that is, at its core, plastic.<\/p>


Call it \u201cvegan leather,\u201d \u201cPU,\u201d or \u201cpleather\u201d – it\u2019s all the same: a petroleum-based material that will eventually crack, peel, and shed microplastics into the environment.<\/p>


Think about the math:<\/p>


A single polyurethane couch contains more plastic than thousands of plastic bags.<\/p>


Those \u201ceco-friendly\u201d faux leather boots? Each step releases microscopic plastic particles that never biodegrade. <\/p>


And when that couch starts to flake (and it will), it can\u2019t be recycled. It goes straight to the landfill where it will outlive us all. <\/p>


That one purchase outweighs years of skipped straws, carefully rinsed yogurt cups, and religious recycling. All the reusable bottles in the world can\u2019t balance the carbon footprint of a sofa destined to peel and be replaced. <\/p>


Real leather, on the other hand, is a by-product of the food industry. If we work so hard to avoid plastic bottles, why give plastic a free pass when it\u2019s disguised as \u201ckindness\u201d?<\/p>


Before you swipe your card, pause.<\/p>


Ask what the material really is.<\/p>

Choose products that last, that can be repaired, and that don\u2019t hide behind clever marketing.<\/p>
