The EU has given the leather industry a clear challenge. EUDR non-compliance will result in exclusion from the EU market, leaving the industry with no choice but to collaborate &amp; innovate or become history.<\/p>\n<p>Traceability of skins and hides constitutes a particular challenge for the leather industry, as they obtain their identity separate from the animal at the slaughterhouse, and information on the previous lifecycle is lost in the vast majority of cases around the globe.<\/p>\n<p>As the representative body of the European Leather Industry, chairing the European standardisation body CEN TC 289, COTANCE, felt the responsibility to withstand this challenge and make it an opportunity for the whole sector.<\/p>\n<p>This is how the Leather Traceability Cluster initiative was born in 2022, setting the stage for cooperation in the leather industry.
