Preliminary statements the group made in March prepared the market for a double-digit decrease. Report by <a href=\"https:\/\/leatherbiz.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Leatherbiz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chief executive, Fran\u00e7ois-Henri Pinault (pictured), said the group had been prepared for \u201ca challenging start to the year\u201d, but added that the situation had \u201cworsened considerably\u201d in the course of the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p>He pointed to \u201csluggish market conditions\u201d, notably in China and the \u201cstrategic repositioning\u201d of parts of its business, starting with its biggest brand, Gucci, as factors that had \u201cexacerbated downward pressures\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Pinault concluded: \u201cAll of us are working tirelessly to see Kering through the current challenges and rebuild a solid platform for enduring growth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gucci\u2019s revenues for the quarter fell by 21% to reach \u20ac2.1 billion and were particularly impacted by a sharp decline in Asia.<\/p>\n<p>At Yves Saint Laurent, the decline was 8%, with revenues for the quarter reaching \u20ac740 million, with Asia, again, as the worst-performing market.<\/p>\n<p>Revenues at Bottega Veneta were steadier at \u20ac388 million, down by 2% year on year.
