There we have it. It\u2019s a bold statement, but it\u2019s also a fact about automotive leather that most people aren\u2019t aware of. Report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.one4leather.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">One 4 Leather<\/a>.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20185 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aplf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image-40-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aplf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image-40-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.aplf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/image-40.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>If you find yourself confused by this statement, bear with us: we are well aware that leather comes from larger animals.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>However, animals aren\u2019t raised in order to give us leather: they\u2019re raised for their meat, milk or wool.<\/p><p>So did you know that:<\/p><ul><li>hides are a leftover from the food industry;<\/li><li>hides can also be transformed into new products or specific ingredients like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.one4leather.com\/fact\/collagen-is-used-in-everything\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collagen<\/a>, protein and gelatin;<\/li><li>20% of the value of an animal comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.one4leather.com\/article\/converting-food-industry-by-products-into-a-sustainable-choice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">secondary industries<\/a> other than the meat industry (of which the skin is a large part!);<\/li><li>a hide would go to waste without proper treatment that preserves it (which is called \u2018tanning\u2019).<\/li><\/ul><p><br \/>This means that hides are upcycled to create a sustainable material for automotive interiors (and other applications). So yes, we can honestly say that no animals are bred for their hides and that we believe, as an industry, that we are adding real value by turning a leftover into a durable product.
