As the daughter of a Uruguayan cattle rancher, Gabriela Hearst’s connection to leather runs deep.

Since launching her namesake label in 2015, she’s made sustainability central to her vision – drawing from a childhood spent on her family’s 17,000-acre ranch in Paysandú, where utility and longevity shaped her understanding of quality.

“It is because things have to be made well to last and to endure,” she told Time Sensitive. “Not from an ostentatious point of view but from a quality, utilitarian aspect.”
