A German court recently ruled that materials like “apple leather” cannot be marketed as leather at all. The reason is simple: if it doesn’t come from animal hide, it isn’t leather.
For the automotive sector, this decision raises important questions. As more interiors feature materials with inventive names, the need for transparency becomes critical. Words matter. So does clarity about what a product contains, especially when sustainability is part of the message.
