Resort 2022/Spring 2022 Runway Reviews - Put It In a Bucket

Bucket bags were in full display during the 2022 Runway shows. So what exactly is a bucket bag? It normally has a round or oval shape with a flat bottom with feet and top drawstring closure. It may have a short handle and/or a shoulder strap worn either on the shoulder or crossbody. Size-wise, the runway shows had the full range — from the cute mini bucket by Versace, the medium-sized multi-coloured bucket by Sara Battaglia, to the big cavernous bucket by Max Mara (as seen in Vogue Resort 2022).

My personal favourite is the bucket bag of Salvatore Ferragamo, with its wide leather band frame, corded leather handles and soft inner leather, draw-stringed pouch. It came in either black, dramatic red or a beautiful blue. I never had a bucket bag before, but if I were to gift myself with one today, it’d be the Ferragamo bucket!

Over at APLF’s sampleroom, I found two bag companies that had bucket bags in their collection. Guangzhou Yinduo Leather Factory is an OEM with the capability to produce bags to your specification. Dongguan Baoluo Leather Co., Ltd., on the other hand, has its own line of bags under its brand name La Tour Eiffel.

Now just for a little bit of back story on the bucket bag, I just found out that in 1932, Louis Vuitton came out with its modern bucket named Noé. The company has said that it was originally meant as a bag to carry around champagne bottles. The bucket bag remained very popular through the 40s due to its practicality, function and spacious-ness. Buckets, in their various iterations, were back in fashion in the 80s, marked by the appearance of the Epi Noé. Most fashion houses, particularly Ferragamo, Prada, and Coach, have made the bucket bag a staple in their collections as well, even to the present.

Some more choice bucket bags from luxury brands featured in Vogue for Spring-Summer 2022 includes Christian Dior, Max Mara, Versace and Alaia.
