Uruguay - Minerva and Marfrig dispute Uruguay plant sale

Brazilian meatpackers Minerva and Marfrig told investors on August 29 that they dispute the termination of a contract for three Uruguayan beef plants. By ILM.

Coprodec blocked Minerva’s proposed acquisition of three meat plants from Marfrig due to antitrust concerns in 2024, maintaining that the acquisition would give Minerva roughly 43% of Uruguay’s cattle slaughtering capacity. Following these regulatory objections, Minerva agreed to sell its Colonia processing plant to Allana for $48 million in June 2025.

Marfrig claims the contract has been terminated because certain conditions were not met under a 24-month period. Minerva disputes this, insisting the contract remains valid and continuing to seek regulatory approval from local competition authorities.

Marfrig has confirmed the facilities continue to operate normally.
