Tannery and footwear group Ecco is celebrating after receiving two awards, one which of which recognised its new tanning technology, DriTan.
DriTan, which the company described as “game-changing” when unveiling it in September 2018, received a Scandinavian Outdoor Award in the technology category. It is a new tanning process that Ecco has said allows for the saving of 20 litres of water per hide processed. It is already in operation at the group’s tannery in the Dongen, the Netherlands.
A product from Ecco’s footwear division was also honoured at the recent ISPO exhibition. Its Ecco Soft 7 Tred W model won an ISPO Award in the outdoor category for hiking and trekking footwear. It was recognised for its use of the group’s Tectonic Luum Leather, which incorporates reflective technology. It will go on sale in the autumn-winter 2019 season.
