Zimbabwe - New shoe factory prepares to open
13 March 2018

A new shoe factory based at the Bulawayo Leather Cluster in Zimbabwe is expected to officially begin production over the next few weeks after power supply issues slowed down the installation process.

Speaking to local media, the cluster’s secretary, Fungai Zvinondiramba, explained production was supposed to begin two weeks ago but that the facility should now be ready within the next two weeks.

He said the factory will create around 200 jobs and will have the capacity to produce more than 150,000 pairs of shoes annually.

Equipment for the new facility was provided with help from the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa). It included a sole processing machine and a shoe last machine.
