Smit & Zoon is committed to making the leather value chain sustainable, together. As one of the players in this value chain, the Dutch company is working hard on making its own practices more sustainable continuously. Recently, their efforts were rewarded with two important independent ratings: the highest level of ZDHC certification (level 3) and the Ecovadis Silver CSR Rating.
Highest level ZDHC certification
Smit & Zoon was granted ZDHC level 3 certification for all Smit branded wet end products produced in the Netherlands and China. And this is just a start! Later in 2020, the remainder of Smit’s global portfolio, consisting of both Smit and Codyeco branded products, is planned for level 3 certification.
As zero discharge of hazardous chemicals in leather manufacturing is an important step towards making the leather value chain more sustainable, receiving level 3 ZDHC certification matters a lot to Smit Group CEO Hans van Haarst. He explains: “Certification is the result of our relentless drive and ongoing mission to make the leather value chain sustainable”.
