As coronavirus impact batters the retail industry and store closures continue to add up, FDRA, AAFA, CFDA — as well as the Travel Goods Association and U.S. Fashion Industry Association — are calling on the US government to accelerate aid efforts for millions of footwear, apparel and travel workers and retailers.
Figures published by the Leather and Hide Council of America show that US packers and traders exported just under 1.7 million wet-salted hides in January, an increase in volume of 4% compared to the first month of last year, reports Leatherbiz.
Leatherbiz reports that industry body the Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA) has calculated that 5.5 million hides generated by the US livestock industry in 2019 failed to reach the leather value chain. Some may still be in warehouses, LHCA said, but “a large percentage” is likely to have gone to waste.
The Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA) said it is considering leading a trade mission to Vietnam and Thailand in July 2020, given the growing importance of those two markets to the U.S. leather industry, reports ILM.
