Hidenet Weekly Video Report for January 12 2020
14 January 2020

Reporting in the first review after the New Year break, Hidenet Editor-in-Chief, Vera Dordick, notes that prices remained steady over the holiday period with Heavy Texas Steers traded once again at US$28 for 66-68lb.  It was noted that the cow market was a touch steadier with more interest.

Slaughter was 640,000; reporting was irregular over this period so instead here are the total shipments for 2019:

Raw Hides: 21,748,100

Wet Blue: 7,266,700

In South America, pressure on raw materials has eased and raw hides are still at US cents 14 in Brazil. Wet blue TR1 remains firm at US cents 55 per sq ft. Over 2019, Brazilian leather exports were stable in terms of volume, but down by 25% in value. Prices are steady in Argentina.

In Europe, slaughterhouses returned from vacation with a more aggressive stance with higher asking prices. English 36+ ox was at 79 pence and is steady. Cow prices are unchanged.
