“Get ready to be swept away,” luxury brand Coach announced on Instagram, next to a sepia photo of an elegantly windblown Jennifer Lopez. “JLo is the new face of Coach.” Reports by Leatherbiz.
The actress, singer, dancer, businesswoman and all-around influencer will be the 2020 global face for Coach, a role that begins with the launch of the brand’s Spring 2020 collection. She’ll also feature in upcoming campaigns for leather goods, ready-to-wear and footwear.
“Jennifer is so authentic,” said Stuart Vevers, Coach’s creative director. “She’s determined and she’s an original who has followed her own path to do things her own way — she really embodies the attitude of Coach and our new campaign.”
Mr Vevers pointed to the history Ms Lopez shares with the brand, which includes a 2002 music video in which she is seen carrying Coach bags. “She’s from New York like Coach, which creates another authentic connection with our heritage,” he said.
With 105 million followers on Instagram, Ms Lopez’s new role and well-documented affinity for leather stands to be a lift for the leather industry. In addition to the Coach announcement, the 50-year-old was named “Icon of the Year” in GQ’s December issue; the accompanying photos of Ms Lopez in a black leather dress instantly garnered as much attention as the accolade itself.
“I’m so excited for this collaboration with Coach” Lopez said in a statement. “It is a timeless brand that I’ve always been a fan of and the upcoming collection really speaks to my personal style — an uptown downtown mix.”
