Cattle in Canada
Canada’s herd size and number of cattle farms have steadily declined in number in the last five years, but the country’s cattle slaughter in 2017 was the highest it has been over the same period of time, reaching just under 3 million head, 6.4% up on the figure for the previous year and 8.4% higher than in 2013.
In 2017, Canada’s cattle herd was just over 11.5 million head, spread across 74,850 livestock farms. In 2013, there were 12.2 million head of cattle on 81,725 farms.
