Reporting last Monday, Hidenet publisher Don Ohsman notes that in Europe the price of hravy cows usually in demand by the automotive sector were weaker indicating a certain softness in that sector although south German bulls remained steady. Demand for calf is still strong with high prices.
In Latin America fresh green hides in Brazil were soft and TR1 wet blue (23 kg) sold at US cents 65. The market in Argentina is quiet; prices were slightly lower in Uruguay yet stady in neighbouring Paraguay.
In North America prices were lower again with benchmark Texas steers around US$35 and ciws “on the floor” at about US$13 in some areas. Once again slaughter exceeded sales and shipments and there is plenty of supply with over 4 million hides sold and not yet shipped.
