Mercedes Headquarters in Stuttgart
The automotive industry is truly global and the major OEMs source their components and materials from a huge range of suppliers globally. This of course, also includes automotive leather. This has prompted the question to be asked, “Does global sourcing make car seat leather a high-risk material?”
Thomas Strebost, a prominent German tanner and Chairman of the German Tanners’ Association (VDL – Verband der Deutschen Lederindustrie), will address this topic during his presentation at the upcoming ILM Automotive Leather Supply Chain conference, taking place in Stuttgart on June 4, 2018.
In a short video presentation, Strebost will highlight how most leather produced in the world today is well made and will challenge the leather supply chain to ask itself from what kind of tanneries and supply chains it should procure leather materials. Does the end consumer know or are they aware of where their leather interior comes from? Is this message communicated?
Thomas Strebost, who is also the Managing Director of leading upholstery and leather goods tanner Heller-Leder, will identify some of the complex technical and environmental criteria that modern tanners need to meet and will highlight some of the recent awards and milestones that his company and other members of the VDL have received in recent years.
Network with other members of the auto leather supply chain
The half-day (afternoon) conference will take place at the five-star, Steigenberger Graf Zeppelin luxury hotel in the centre of the city on Monday, June 4 (12-5.30pm). The reason for this date and this location is to ally the conference with the Automotive Interiors Show which is taking place in the city in the same week, June 5-8 at the Stuttgart Messe. The idea is to allow attendees of the ILM conference an opportunity to visit the interiors show also on the same trip and maximise time away from the office or factory.
Speakers will include representatives from the whole automotive leather supply chain including leading tanners, tier suppliers and OEMs. There will also be opportunities for networking.
The conference is aimed at anyone connected with the global automotive leather supply chain from hide/skin suppliers, chemicals and machinery suppliers, research and academic institutes, traders, tanners, tier-1 suppliers and automotive OEMs.
All presentations will be in English. The conference is lead sponsored by global leather chemical maker Stahl, Zschimmer & Schwarz and Lectra. It is also sponsored by JBS Couros and Erretre, supported by Zünd and the raw materials pricing and analysis website, theSauerReport.com.
Announcements on further speakers and topics will be announced on this website in the coming weeks.
