Leatherbiz reports that some tanneries in the new Robeeky industrial zone in Cairo have already completed installation of tanning drums and equipment, according to the Egyptian minister of industry and trade, Tarek Kabil,
Tanneries based in the old leather district of Cairo are in the process of relocating to this new zone in the Egyptian capital. The first phase of the move saw the Egyptian government help ten tanneries to transfer and install their operations at the new site.
Mr Kabil said the factories will carry out tests of their operations in the coming days. He was speaking during a tour of the Robeeky Leather City, where he inspected the equipment being delivered to the tanneries. He also held meetings with the ten tannery owners.
He indicated that preparations are underway for the transfer of the next batch of tanneries from Cairo’s old leather district.
