Leather chemicals suppliers’ body TEGEWA has pledged its support for the ‘Tannery of the Future’ foundation, reports Leatherbiz.
‘Tannery of the Future’ is a self-assessment tool for tanneries that launched in 2016 to help leather manufacturers make a start on improving their corporate social responsibility.
TEGEWA general secretary, Alex Foeller, said Tannery of the Future can be a useful tool for leather manufacturers who “need a helping hand” in establishing how they measure up on corporate social responsibility.
Tanners, retailers, brands and traders can use the tool to discover how sustainability in leather production can improve. The tool was developed by the Dutch CSR Netherlands foundation, Egbert Dikkers from Smit & zoon, independent leather expert Hans Both, and Antoinette Gast from fair-trade leather importer Tuyu. Since its release in March 2016, the self-assessment tool has been downloaded by hundreds of tanners worldwide.
