Automotive - Audi to start making and selling electric cars in China this year
18 January 2017

Automotive group Audi is to expand its business activities in the Chinese market. With local partner FAW Group, the company has defined 21 “key strategy fields” that make up a new 10-year plan. Report by Leatherbiz

Audi will significantly expand its portfolio of locally produced cars and enter new segments, including electric vehicles. FAW and Audi have set up a new, dedicated company for mobility and digital services.

In the first five years of the plan, Audi and FAW have agreed to produce five additional e-tron models locally and introduce them to the Chinese market – including purely battery-powered cars with ranges of more than 500 kilometres. With the Audi A6 L e-tron as first locally produced plug-in hybrid and the imported Q7 e-tron, Audi will sell two electrified full-size models in China from this year on.
