#DESIGNABAGHK 2017 Winner Interview: Evening Bag
Nandhitha Katta | 28 June 2017

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?
I’m Nandhitha Katta, a 12th grade student in Bangalore, India and a winner of DAB 2017.

2. How did you first hear about Design-a-Bag Online Competition (DAB)?
I first heard about the competition through my father as he was a winner in 2010.

3. Can you briefly explain what your entry was about?
My entry is a Clip-On evening bag inspired by kaleidoscopes. It is suitable for parties as it can be used as a clutch or sling bag or just by clipping it onto your dress and allows you to walk freely.

4. What did you hope to achieve when you decided to enter the competition?
I entered the competition with the hope to gain exposure to international audience and evaluate my capabilities among other finalists.

5. What challenges did you have to overcome to get your idea completed?
I had most challenges in making the prototype as the original materials were not available at the time.

6. What was your first reaction when you found out you were selected as a category winner of DAB?
I was thrilled with excitement and felt like I was flying in the sky.

7. Were you happy with your final piece and what you would you have changed if you had more time?
I was actually very happy with the outcome of the first prototype.

8. What advice would you give to students entering the competition next year?
Do not set boundaries, think freely.

9. What does winning DAB mean to you personally?
It’s my first ever internationally recognised award and I am so grateful for it.

10. What are you hoping to do next?
Focus on my studies and reach new goals I’ve set for myself.
