Our Half Day Sustainability in the Leather Supply Chain Course aims to provide delegates with an overview of the leather supply chain. Covering topics such as common leathers types and from which animals, the leather making process, traceability and material sources, environmental impacts and appropriate stewardship, chemical management and risks within the process, NGO activities and leather life cycle.

  • How skins and hides are processed, tanned, dyed, dried, milled and finished.


Traceability and material sources

  • An overview of where leathers are sourced and some of the potential sensitivities with the different regions.

Environmental impacts and appropriate stewardship

  • A review of the sensitivities associated with leather making 

Chemical management and risks within the process

  •  An overview of key chemicals that can be found in leather, there use, effective management and future trends including an overview of current NGO activity.

  • A brief overview of relevant NGO campaigns

Leather life cycle 

  • An overview of different tannages used and their effect on life cycle. Brief review of carbon foot printing and the potential effect of cattle in the measurement.
