“Himadri-Hans Handloom” (HHH) is a noble initiative of The Hans Foundation, a non-profit organisation, working in collaboration with the Government of Uttarakhand. The objectives are to make Uttarakhand’s handloom and handcrafted textiles accessible to global markets, impart technical and design skills to rural women artisans of Kumaon thereby helping them enhance their indigenous skills, and finally, make local craft products that match the needs and aspirations of the new-age consumer. Our aim is to directly impact the lives of 5000 women weavers of Uttarakhand.
The primary objective is to promote local handicrafts and artworks that are symbols of the Himalayan cultural heritage. In so doing, we also create sustainable livelihood avenues for the marginalised craft communities who are living in some of the most remote areas of the Himalayas in India. These artisans are at the far end of the supply chain and yet have amazing traditional wisdom and skills. HHH intends to create a sustainable hub for the handloom products of the state and act as a robust link between primary producers and destined international markets. The aim is to strengthen traditional craft value chains thereby bringing the desired change in society.
